23 Days and Counting!

Well with New York getting closer and closer, 23 days to be exact, I have made some new friends that live in NY through some of my friends here in Jacksonville. Everyone has been so friendly and has offered to help out by answering questions and giving advice. My newest friend addition, Brittany, gave me some awesome websites that can keep you updated on events, food, shopping, apartments, restaurants, ect. See below for all of the fantastic websites and check 'em out!

Also if you look on the very bottom of the blog I have listed some other websites that are very similar to these.

www.thrillist.com, www.dailycandy.com, www.urbandaddy.com - they send a daily email that lets you know about new restaurants, fun events, free events, sample sales!

www.goldstar.com - offers great discounts (most half off) on events, Broadway shows, comedy shows, etc

www.menupages.com - list almost every restaurant in the city, gives a review and the menu

www.hopstop.com - another navigation tool (my favorite one)

www.craigslist.com - will become your new best friend for finding apts, roommates, jobs, furniture and a million other random things

www.traderjoes.com - Grocery Store in Union Sq (on 14th St) its cheap, lots of organic choices and yummy (the price of food is almost double here, so trader joes is a way to get cheaper and good food).

Making Some Progress!

This has been a good week for New York planning. I received three phone calls in the past two days regarding jobs in NY. Two were for nanny positions and the other job was for a receptionist position that I applied for a few weeks ago. One of the nanny jobs sounded promising. The job is for a nice family in Brooklyn, which will be very close to where I will live, and I might be interviewing with the family when I arrive. Along with the phone calls, I also received several emails regarding other nanny jobs. I think now that I have a definite date for the move, it will be easier to have job interviews lined up when I arrive.

Mom and I were going to have a garage sale this weekend, so I could sell the rest of my stuff before the move. But now with Hurricane Fay on its way, it looks like the garage sale will have to be postponed for another week. I am STILL working on selling the car and hopefully it will be sold in the next month. Everyone cross you fingers for me!

Monday I was on a shopping mission. I went to Marshall's and got some new black slip on shoes, for all of the walking I will be doing, and I also bought a new pair of Express jeans. I was really excited because I got a killer deal only spending $40.00 for both!

So with 31 days left until the move, things seem to be coming right along. I guess we will see what the next few weeks have in store!

Gabe sent me this video clip from the old show The Nanny...enjoy!

I've Got The Golden Ticket!

Today was a big day for me and my New York planning. I FINALLY bought my one way plane ticket to the Big Apple. I will be lifting off from Jacksonville September 21st. My heart is pounding a bit, I'm scared and excited, its a great feeling! I will be flying to New York with my friend Gabe, who is also from Jacksonville and moved to NY several months ago. He has been such a huge inspiration for me. It will be nice to have someone to fly with, I am sure my heart will be ready to explode out of my chest that day. Now that the ticket has been purchased I am feeling super motivated. New York here I come!

Trip Planner

Last night my Brother-in-law's brother Kui, who lives in New York, gave me a couple more really great sites for tracking the nearest subway from your current location. You basically enter your address and it will map out the closest subway. You can also map it by how much time each route will take and also by how many subway transfers you will have to make. Use the trip planner below to try it out!

Checkin Out The Subway

The $81.00 monthly unlimited card is good for unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight for 30 days. Its a pretty sweet deal seeing as though I wont have to pay for a car, insurance, or gas. With gas in the $4 a gallon range I think I could really get used to public transportation.
